A man is now free after being tried for the same murder four times.

The new Baltimore City State's Attorney, Ivan Bates explains why he made that decision along with the changes he's made during his first week in office.

Day one in office on January 3, Bates made it glaringly evident; he is not, nor are his policies, his predecessor's.

Right away taking aim at one of former state's attorney Marilyn Mosby's controversial directives.

“Just so it's clear what I'm saying, there was a non-prosecution policy on low-level offenses by the last administration. effective right now, at this moment and second, I recall that policy,” Bates said to applause during his inauguration address.

Part of the changes made by Bates that we've seen in his first week in office also includes perhaps, a Facebook post from the police department, and photos of Bates meeting with the department's executive leadership team Thursday.

His relationship is seemingly much warmer with police than his predecessor.
