Two homicides, hours apart on Wednesday in Baltimore.

One of those homicides happened on West Belvedere Avenue, an open-air drug market in the city.

District 5 Councilman Isacc “Yitzy” Schleifer presides over that neighborhood.

Schleifer was at the scene of the shooting in his district, where a 44-year-old man died.

“Enough is enough already, ” said Schleifer.

Councilman Schleifer has been very vocal about the effects of open-air drug markets.

“If you have people distributing, selling drugs, buying drugs out there on the street it often leads to violence,” said Schleifer.

Schleifer said he has asked for help from Baltimore Police, but to no end.

“I’ve asked them to make sure these people are barred from these properties, helping the business owners with that process and they failed to do that,” said Schleifer.

Schleifer has been speaking with business owners in his district, who he says are living in fear.

“A lot of these business owners are afraid to walk into their own businesses because of the drug dealing,” said Schleifer.

Outgoing State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby refusing to prosecute low level crimes. Something Schleifer says is a direct correlation to the city's homicide rate.
