The Baltimore city council is one step closer to fast-tracking a bill that would shorten the number of years of service needed for city elected leaders to be eligible for a pension. The legislation faced a second-reader vote at Monday's city council meeting.

Councilmen Ryan Dorsey of District 3 and Zeke Cohen who represents District 12 were the only two standing in opposition of the legislation.

"I worry about the perception of self dealing.. that if we move to quickly on any legislation that impacts us directly," said Cohen.

In the end, the bill passed a second reader Monday with a 9-to-2 vote with three other councilmembers abstaining. The legislation heads now to a third reader.
