In our counties in crisis, crimes in counties around Baltimore city are seeing a spike in violent crimes. So, what’s driving the uptick? A law enforcement expert says criminals could move under the radar.

In Baltimore County, concerns from residents about a rise in crime.

“It’s becoming a really unsafe place to live.” said one concerned citizen.

Some residents want to keep that easy access, out. Like this homeowner, protesting expanded public transportation from the city into the county.

“The transportation proposals that would try to make this area more urban is not really something we signed on for when we bought our houses,” said the resident.

In Glen Burnie on Thursday three teens were arrested for attempting to rob this retail store. 2 of the teens, are from Baltimore city. So, could there be a link between public transportation and crime?

“it makes it easier for the suspects to get in and get out.

Dave Walker, a retired police officer says it’s possible.

“Well, they use that for many reasons. That’s what they’re used to. They think that is going to be a link that we won’t find out law enforcement, we’ll find out about it,” Walker explains.

Walker says criminals can commit multiple crimes in multiple areas using public transit.

Serial crimes, like robberies that give up more than one victim, can be linked.”

Although it’s not clear if it’s related, a bus stop, just a few hundred feet away from the attempted robbery at the retail store. Another, 25 yards from an armed robbery at a gas station in glen burnie last month. Walker says criminals bank on using public transportation as a means of not being caught.

“They think that is going to be a link that we won’t find out law enforcement, won’t find out about it.”
