Baltimore, MD – Oct. 4, 2023  – Starting October 4 in Maryland, according to WMAR2News, vehicles originally made in 2019 or later won’t need biennial emissions tests for six years unless they change ownership or are registered out of state. These new rules, adopted in January, will affect around 200,000 vehicles. The MVA notes a nearly 99% pass rate for vehicles six years old or younger. Maryland’s inspection program, started in 1984, has seen multiple revisions to align with environmental standards. Affected vehicle owners will receive email notifications about their revised testing dates around eight weeks in advance.
