The White House has withdrawn the nomination of Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper, to serve as director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

President Donald Trump nominated Schroyer in June for the position. Schroyer previously served on Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s security detail and later became a senior adviser at the Department of Homeland Security.

The nomination had stalled in the Senate, where Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, had not scheduled a confirmation hearing. Schroyer’s limited experience leading a large agency had also raised questions about his nomination.

The White House listed Schroyer’s nomination among other withdrawals sent to the Senate Thursday. No reason was given for the withdrawal.

ICE has not had a Senate-confirmed director since the Obama administration and will continue without a Senate-confirmed leader.
