<p>The Baltimore City Council on Monday voted to allow council members to become eligible for pensions after they served for eight years.</p> <p>The council came to a decision on the measure just before 6 p.m. The final vote was 8-5 with two abstentions.</p> <p>The vote is in response to a term limit question passed earlier this month. It limited members of the council, along with the mayor and comptroller, to just two four-year terms.</p> <p>Council members were originally eligible for pensions after they served for twelve years.</p> <p>Jovani Patterson, leader of People for Elected Accountability and Civic Engagement, called on Mayor Brandon Scott to veto the bill.</p>
