<p><strong>Baltimore, MD – Dec. 12, 2022 </strong>- When Sam Cogen was elected the new sheriff of Baltimore City, he realized the department was behind the times.</p> <p>“I felt like the office could be taken to the next level," Cogen.</p> <p>One of the first task for Cogen is to implement a record-keeping system.</p> <p>“Like right now when a deputy goes out and investigates a warrant, sometimes they’re even writing on the back of the original warrant, instead of creating a case file that’s a permanent record," Cogen said.</p> <p>Beyond technology, Cogen wants to add more deputies to the streets to assist in fighting crime.</p> <p>“I felt like the Sheriff’s office can play a role more so than it was in the public safety solution we need in Baltimore City," Cogen said.</p> <p>Which is why he is plans to meet with Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison.</p>
