New Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates made immediate changes and proclamations moments after taking the oath of office.

“My goal as your state’s attorney is to hit the ground running, to bring about the change our city desperately needs and deserves,” said Bates.

Ivan Bates was sworn into office today after being elected to the office unchallenged in November 2022. Bates was the winner of a three-way Democratic Primary for Baltimore City State’s Attorney in July, winning against then-incumbent state’s attorney Marilyn Mosby and former federal prosecutor Thiru Vignarajah.

During his inauguration address, Bates ended Mosby’s policy of not prosecuting low-level offenses.

“Just so it’s clear what I’m saying, there was a non-prosecution policy on low-level offenses by the last administration. Effective right now – this moment and second – I’ve recalled that policy,” said Bates.
