According to the WSJ, the Florida Senate has approved a bill that would change the governance of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which houses Walt Disney World Resort. The bill would rename the district to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and give the governor, Ron DeSantis, the authority to appoint members to its governing board. Currently, Disney handpicks the members. The bill also states that Disney would remain liable for nearly $1 billion in municipal debt issued by the district for infrastructure projects instead of shifting the burden to the taxpayers of nearby counties. The bill was passed after DeSantis clashed with Disney over its opposition to a state law.
