Previously, FOX45's Project Baltimore reported that 2,000 students in high schools, middle and elementary schools across Baltimore City could not do math at grade level, based on the latest state testing. Mayor Scott appeared in person at an unrelated housing event and said the test scores show a trend statewide of math scores dropping, and that the story being discussed is not the “full picture” of test scores from students within City Schools. However, this has sparked outrage, with many, including former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, criticizing Baltimore City Public Schools. Lawmakers have said accountability for student achievement “is a shared responsibility among all of us” and that investing more money in education is “pivotal in fostering student success,” although not all agree.
