Baltimore, MD – July 28, 2023 – Lanternflies pose a serious risk to vineyards, orchards, and nurseries, feeding on grapes, apples, and stone fruits, according to WBALTV. BJL has just been notified that they have been found in the Cheswolde area.
Officials urge residents to be vigilant and report sightings to the Maryland Department of Agriculture at 410-841-5920 or dontbug.md@maryland.gov. If found, these lanternflies should be destroyed immediately by crushing them with gloved hands or drowning them in soapy water or rubbing alcohol.
