A $6.3 million plan to protect Marylanders against hate crimes, and to assist with local police department recruitment and retention efforts

The Protecting Against Hate Crimes program will use $5 million to disperse amongst non-profit organizations, offering support with equipment, personnel, and improvements to physical security.

The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services initiated this program, as the Miller-Moore administration previously worked on plans to enhance public safety throughout the state by supporting law enforcement and focusing on communities and youth, and ensuring all government agencies work together.

“Every Marylander has a role to play in combating racism, bias and hate and in keeping our communities safe,” said Gov. Moore. “Through this funding, we will help support both our community partners and our law enforcement partners as we work together to build a stronger, safer Maryland.”

$1.3 million of the Police Recruitment and Retention grant will offer assistance to local law enforcement agencies in their recruitment efforts, in addition to bonuses, retention, tuition reimbursement, and healthcare.
