Baltimore, MD – Nov. 1, 2023  –  Baltimore police have reported a decrease of nearly 25% in carjackings overall, but there is a concerning rise in carjackings committed by juveniles, according to WBAL. City Councilman Zeke Cohen will hold a hearing next week to address this issue, recognizing that it is a nationwide problem affecting various jurisdictions in Maryland. In Baltimore, 76 juveniles have been arrested for robberies, marking a 13% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, over 220 juveniles have been arrested for auto theft offenses in the current year. The city has seen over 9,400 cars stolen this year, impacting residents and potentially contributing to people moving out of Baltimore. The hearing is scheduled for November 8th.
